Art Is Life
Who is Ray Ray ?
Born in Detroit, Michigan in the year 1985 to a young immigrant mother and an alcoholic father, her early life was very turbulent. Her mother remarried when she was seven and moved her family to a rustic cabin a few hours north of the city. Here she began sketching the landscapes and experimenting with watercolor. She spent summers on the east side of Detroit where she became infatuated with painting cityscapes obstructed by powerlines and returned north every fall to attend the Center For the Arts and Sciences Academy in Saginaw, Michigan until she graduated in 2004.
She moved to Chicago at age seventeen where she briefly attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago before dropping out to join the Palette & Chisel Painter's Guild on Chicago's Gold Coast where she was the youngest painter to be accepted into the guild at that time. Ray Ray didn't stop there however, she moved to New York for inspiration and painted the Hudson Valley before acquiring a one-way ticket to the Hawaiian Islands. Today she is living and working in her studio on the coast of Maine.
